CHIC Beijing, where to begin!

From the 23rd to the 30th of March I was making my way to Beijing and back, and what a trip it was! Must admit, it was a little daunting stepping off the plane and realising I was in a city with another 20 million people!

I should say, the reason I was in Beijing was thanks to a trade mission from Scottish Development International (SDI).  Tartan Spirit was one of 16 specially selected Scottish companies chosen to represent Scotland at CHIC (China International Clothing and Accessories Fair) – also known as the biggest trade fair in China!

It was exciting to see how the Chinese market responded to the new Tartan Spirit collection, the feedback was so positive and they were enthralled by our tartans on display. The Chinese like attention to detail, and that’s what we do best! Our Harris Tweed, Alcantara and Wool Tartans are carefully selected to complement each other to the highest degree.

The most popular garment of the show was our new Orange Harris Tweed Coat, we’d chosen the orange Harris Tweed for it’s bright properties and teamed it with the MacNab Ancient tartan to highlight the detail. The coat and the new Fushia Pink dress that we sent down the catwalk for the International Fashion Show was a huge success, cameras were flashing and everyone was talking! We did Scotland proud!

The Scottish pavilion had a lot of interest from people and I was fortunate enough to meet some high profile visitors keen to discuss Tartan Spirit and our future in China. From independent boutiques to high end department stores, there is definitely some scope to bring Tartan Spirit to China in the future!

As well as exhibiting for the week at the trade fair, we also experienced some of Beijing, we saw some fabulous high-end shopping malls including the very prestigious Joyce store featured in the China World Mall, to the market places filled top to toe in counterfeit goods! Not where we want to end up!
